Cypress
Canon 5D Mark II 50mm ISO2k f8 1/320s
Tough shot as I do not carry a wide angle. I tried with my friend's 24mm and the view was stunning at the heels of the giant cypress.

Tree and new leaves

Canon 5D ISO400 1/125s f5.6 50mm
I believe this was my second or third attempt in making a picture of this tree. I wanted to show the whole tree with its leaves, in their special pale new green colors. I made probably three to four attempts to develop this in Lightroom before finally landing on this color revision.
Another difficulty is controlling the depth of field. The tree, due to its round dimensions, needs a larger field to be in focus, and it's tremendously difficult to determine if a leave is in focus on the camera screen under sunlight.

I never thought of actually visiting Yosemite. I was studying in the States for 3 years, and have been to many mountains and slopes. I never got the chance however for places like the Yellow Stone, and I have been longing for visits to national parks.
It is about opening to ideas and exploring new places. My friend Alex and I canceled our plans to meet in San Francisco, and I got a bit of free time. I was staying at my friend Stephen's place, and I decided to call up the park, get a tent and a rental car. Off I went Yosemite the next day.
I can still remember my first sight of the valley and the El Capitan. I can still remember how my wrong turns took me to beautiful mountains and vistas. I only have a point and shoot. The photos I took are priceless to me.
Like in this picture, it's all about perspectives.

My friend was taking pictures of roses in the garden while I was wandering with my 50mm. It was in the afternoon when the warm sunlight shines over this old tree.
I love the texture. The patterns are just gorgeous, as always in nature. This wouldn't have worked without the correct sunlight forming interesting shadows on the tree. I always find this fascinating.
